It is with great sadness that we tell you of the loss of Dick Plog, our President. Dick was in a one vehicle accident & died as a result of his injuries at St. Barnabas Medical Center on Saturday, July 20th. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gay.

Dick was a founding member of our organization in 1993. In addition to being the last Charter member still serving as a Trustee, Dick remained active on the Construction and Site Selection Committees. He served as 1st Vice President before being elected President in 2010. Always ready to help out whenever he saw a need, Dick often used his truck and trailer to pick up donations for the Habitat Restore.

Dick was a kind and gentle man who often went that extra mile to help those in need. Educated as an engineer, Dick was also a talented craftsman who loved to work with his hands and willingly gave the fruits of his labor to others. Dick and his wife Gay actively volunteered with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, Peter’s Valley Craft Center, Millbrook Village and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area where Dick was named “Volunteer of the Year” in 2012. Dick also served as an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Branchville and sang in the choir.

Dick’s work ethic, talent and dedication will be greatly missed by Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, each individual member and those we serve. Our sympathy goes out to Gay and their families.

This Kousa dogwood tree has been planted at the First Presbyterian Church in Branchville in memory of Dick Plog.
